BattleForAnaxes

The Battle of Anaxes, also called the Battle for Anaxes, took place in 19 BBY when a Separatist fleet, under the command of Admiral Trench, attacked the Republic shipyards on Anaxes.

The battle[]

In the final weeks of the Clone War, Separatist Admiral Trench launched an invasion of Anaxes to capture the Republic's shipyards on the planet. Jedi Generals Mace Windu and Anakin Skywalker led the Republic forces against Trench's fleet, but after weeks of fighting across the planet, Anaxes began to fall to the Separatists. Clone Captain Rex theorized that this was because Trench possessed his algorithm for Republic strategy and was using it to anticipate and counter their attacks. He suggested that he and Commander Cody lead a squad behind enemy lines to take back the algorithm. For this task, Cody called on the elite Clone Force 99, the "Bad Batch."

The team's mission behind enemy lines took them to the Separatist Cyber Center, where they discovered the source of Trench's intel was not a program of Rex's algorithm, but a live signal originating from Skako Minor. Digging deeper, they found the live signal was coming from ARC Trooper Echo, who was presumed dead in the escape from the Citadel. Realizing their old friend was still alive, Rex and Skywalker mounted a rescue mission into Skako Minor with the Bad Batch and freed Echo from the Techno Union's custody. Fearing for his life, foreman Wat Tambor chose not to divulge this loss to Admiral Trench.

With Echo unplugged from Tambor's machines, the Republic now had the opportunity to take the planet back. Windu proposed that their first move be to retake the main assembly complex. Echo volunteered to improve their odds: so as not to tip Trench off that he'd lost access to the algorithm, Echo and the Bad Batch would sneak aboard Trench's dreadnought and feed him false intel, this time playing to the Republic's advantage. Skywalker accompanied them in the Havoc Marauder while Windu and Kenobi led the attack on the assembly complex.

Though the Bad Batch were skeptical of Echo's true loyalties, they launched an incursion aboard Trench's ship the Invulnerable as the Jedi retook the assembly complex. Echo advised Trench to send all available battle droids to overrun their position. However, when the droids surrounded Windu and Kenobi's troops, Echo sent out a feedback pulse that disabled all the droids at once. Trench was outraged and demanded to know where the pulse came from. While the droids scanned for the source, Trench activated his contingency plan: a bomb planted on the assembly complex fusion reactor, which would create a blast powerful enough to destroy most of Anaxes. Echo attempted to decrypt the disarm sequence so Windu could stop the countdown. But as he did, the droids jammed the source of the pulse, overloading Echo's neural net and knocking him out.

Trench prepared for his next invasion after the bomb wiped out Republic forces, but suddenly Skywalker came to the bridge and demanded the final disarm code. Trench initially refused, knowing Dooku would kill him for this defeat, until Anakin coerced him with severing his mechanical arms. Skywalker gave the final code to Windu, who then disarmed the bomb, once again ensuring a Republic victory. Trench then attempted to overpower Skywalker with his electrostaff, but Skywalker stabbed him with his lightsaber. As Trench lay dying, Anakin retrieved the admiral's self-destruct detonator before leaving with the rest of the team.

After fighting their way off the Invulnerable, Skywalker gave the detonator to the Bad Batch's demolitions expert Wrecker as a "present." Wrecker happily destroyed Trench's ship, crippling numerous other Separatist cruisers in the process. With the battle won and Republic shipyards up and running again, Generals Windu, Kenobi, and Skywalker praised Echo and the Bad Batch for their service. Not caring much for accolades, the Bad Batch chose to leave before the medal ceremony. Feeling his place belonged with them, Echo left as well and chose to join Clone Force 99.
