Carl was a Shikitari gladiator. He fought at the Cauldron with many other gladiators. He saw the Bugnaught, and he picked him up over his head and yelled as if the Bugnaught was defenseless, but the Bugnaught took out his flamethrower and burned Carl to death before the Giant Flog could kill him.
