The Conquest of Kaller occurred late in the Clone Wars after General Grievous, de facto leader of the Confederacy of Independent Systems, ordered the planet to be occupied. In response, the Jedi Council dispatched Jedi General Depa Billaba and her padawan Caleb Dume to repel the invasion. The Republic forces suffered heavy casualties and Billaba's position was nearly overrun, but they received aid from experimental commando squad, Clone Force 99, who helped turn the tide of the battle.
However, the victory was short-lived. When Supreme Chancellor Palpatine issued Order 66, branding all Jedi as traitors to the Republic, the clone troopers turned on Billaba and Dume and attacked them. Billaba was killed and Dume fled the battlefield, escaping with the assistance of Sergeant Hunter.
