The Imperial Navy, also known as the Imperial fleet, was the spaceborne branch of the Imperial Military. It was formed from the Republic Navy at the end of the Clone Wars when Emperor Sheev Palpatine transformed the Republic into the Galactic Empire. As such, the fleet initially inherited the Republic's Venator-class Star Destroyers, though they would eventually be phased out for a newer design. The fleet was tasked with maintaining order and enforcing the Empire's rule across the galaxy.
