Rex's Phase I pauldron

Pauldrons were pieces of padded material typically worn by Clone Trooper Officers of the Grand Army of the Republic. They offered additional protection and signified rank or unit affiliation. They were often attached to other pieces of gear, such as ammunition bandoliers or pouches. Many models were utilized throughout the Clone Wars, and clones would personalize them with different color schemes.

Variants

Numerous models of pauldrons were utilized throughout the Clone Wars. Pauldrons commonly used with Phase I armor were broad and covered the entire chest, with an upswept extension on the side. Occasional troopers such as Captain Breaker had unique pauldron designs.

The pauldrons of ARC Troopers were slightly different from the standard model. Instead of one larger extension over the left shoulder, it was composed of two smaller ones on each side. They covered less of the chest and were linked with a smaller band. Captain Rex and Commander Bly wore ARC pauldrons on their Phase II armor sets, but with only one pauldron on their left shoulders.

By the end of the Clone Wars, a new model of pauldron was worn by Captain Grey. This version was flatter and less bulky than previous ones.
