Providence-class carrier/destroyer, also known as the Trade Federation cruiser or Separatist Dreadnaught, was a capital ship used by the Confederacy of Independent Systems during the Clone Wars.

The Providence-class carrier/destroyer was a Quarren designed ship like the Recusant-class Light Destroyer. They were typically commanded by Neimoidian officers, Tactical Droids, or Commander Battle Droids, and had a minimum crew of 600 droids. The ship could carry as many as 1.4 million droids, not including ground forces, 120 Vulture Droids, 120 Droid Tri-Fighters , and at least 10-30 Hyena Bombers.

By its design, the Providence-class was very easy to modify. In some cases the CIS would upgrade the weapon- and propulsion systems.

Offensive and defensive systems

The Providence was usually equipped with heavy weapon systems such as Quad turbolaser batteries, and Dual laser cannon batteries. Proton torpedoes were very commonly used, the ship could carry 2.800 torpedoes. The reactors on board each vessel produced so much power that even their point-defense ion cannons were each capable of delivering enough heat per shot to rival a 4.8 megaton bomb.

The Providence-class carrier/destroyer also carried one special feature which none of the other Confederacy of Independent Systems ships normally would carry. The ship was also outfitted with portside and starboard deck cannons, which could prove useful in close range encounters with Venator-class Star Destroyers.

These warships were armed with thick and extensive hull plating and a network of heavy combat shield generators. The Providence relied on Creveld-4 radial ion drive units for sublight propulsion, and they featured an Advanced Class 1.5 hyperdrive.
