Kano was never identified as a member of the 501st. Most people believe so just because he has blue markings on his armor, but it was never confirmed in Republic Heroes.

He is a member of the 501st. If he had the incorrect color of armor markings, he would have been disiplined for his actions. He bears the correct color, therefore he is in the 501st Legion. P.S.
