  • Hey! Clone Wars is super close now, especially with a confirmed premiere date. How's preparation going? Can I help?

      Loading editor
    • Hey! Everything seems to be in order, I'm very satisfied with where the wiki is at. What do you believe should be done to prepare for the new season?

        Loading editor
    • To be honest, I think you guys are doing a great job. Perhaps giving the main page a fresh coat of paint might be a good idea? Just to give users something fresh to look at is all.

Even with the main page, all the key elements are there but perhaps the order could even just be rejigged to help it feel fresher. Fandom's Main Page guidelines might be a useful tool too. They offer some great guidelines as to how to make main pages effective with regards to search engines and reader experience.

A great example is that of Bachelor Nation Wiki. You can see there they start the main page off with a lede section describing the topic and the wiki, going into graphical navigation for users.

Sorry for the longer response, hopefully this is helpful. I'm more than happy to help with the design process more, just wanted to give some initial advice first. :)

        Loading editor
    • On it! I'll get to work on the main page as soon as possible. :)

        Loading editor
    • Sounds good! I'm happy to help if needed as I say. You guys are doing an amazing job with the wiki!

        Loading editor
    • With a release date, hopefully we'll get closer to the rest of the episode names and have the whole season mapped out in the wiki. But it IS on Disney+, which won't of course have a broadcast schedule. Not to mention whether StarWars.com will still do episode guides for this season, so we may just take it as it comes. I'll of course be helping out with whichever areas still need attention. It'll be nice to be editing new episode articles again!

        Loading editor
    • Absolutely! I'm assuming they'll carry on doing it on a weekly basis as they did with the Mandalorian. Hopefully StarWars.com do some sort of episode guide and I have a feeling they might do something like that given the popularity of the show. I'll be around too if I can help with anything! :)

        Loading editor
    • It is confirmed to be releasing on a weekly basis based on a caption on a promotional flyer revealed last week. It might be for the best so that our happiness lasts haha!

        Loading editor
    • For sure! I know that system worked with the Mandalorian. It kept up the hype for the 9 weeks or so. :)

    • Yeah, and I'm sure we all know about the incredible, jaw-dropping success of "the Child," or "Baby Yoda" xD.

        Loading editor
    • Of course! I need to know more about Baby Yoda. I imagine we'll have more shocks to come in TCW season 7!

OH MY GOSH THIS POSTER!!! First thing I saw when I opened my phone this morning and it's SO BEAUTIFUL! It also makes me realize how emotionally unprepared I am for this finale. :P

    • Just seen that and the trailer when I got back from work! Well done guys for getting them up on the wiki speedily. Be sure to make a Discussions post about them! :D

        Loading editor
    • Can i make tons of screenshots of the trailer and add it to the wiki?

        Loading editor
    • That would be for the admins to decide so I'll wait for them to respond. :)

        Loading editor
    • Let's not go with "tons of screenshots," just so we don't end up with cluttered galleries. I'd advise adding images from the trailer only as we have specific places for them and go from there. I've already added a few to existing articles, and we can add more as pages are created and expanded.

    • What about press release ones?

        Loading editor
    • That sounds good to me too! Looking good on the screenshots as well!

Edit: Also, I only just realized that this is on Darth's wall and isn't an actual Discussions post. :P My bad! But thanks to Darth for making and highlighting that discussions thread!

        Loading editor
    • Great background work, Dracarys! Let me take a look at the main page and perhaps draw up a draft version for you to look at. Most of it would be just moving around what you already have and adding some more graphics on there. Stay tuned! :D

My next steps include changing the headers to use a Clone Wars style font plus editing the portal bit with links to episodes, planets etc. Just want to get the components in place before adding any CSS.

Please let me know what you think and I can change/add things. :D

        Loading editor
    • I love it! Updating the headers' font sounds like an excellent idea. I'm all on board. Let's see what Bane thinks.

Edit: The only thing I would alter is changing the phrase "go-place" to "go-to place" in the fourth paragraph under the "Welcome to the Clone Wars Wiki" header, but it's so minor and was probably unintentional. Again, awesome work on the whole!

        Loading editor
    • Thanks! Yeah, that was a typo haha I'll correct that. :)

        Loading editor
    • Another draft! The CSS is in MediaWiki:Wikia.css ready for implementation. That's by no means forcing a decision or anything, this is still a draft and a lot can be changed. :)

    • Hi guys! So Clone Wars is finally returning tomorrow! Can't believe it's finally here.

I don't want to distract you guys too much from that, but out of curiosity, I wanted to ask:

Why do you edit here and not on Wookieepedia?

It's a general question that I'm curious about as I know there are quite a few Star Wars Wikis based on certain aspects of the franchise. Thanks guys. :)

        Loading editor
    • I still edit on Wookieepedia from time to time, but mostly minor edits and formatting stuff when and where I see things to fix. I save my bigger edits for this wiki so that I don't end up writing the identical articles to Wookieepedia. Part of it is also because I have a little more freedom on this wiki from Wookieepedia's tightly wound policies. Granted, you don't become the world's most comprehensive Star Wars database by being lax with rules and organization, but I digress.

More recently I've taken a step back from Fandom in general to focus on real-life projects, so this wiki garners most of my attention when I do edit. Besides, a smaller community makes it feel more cozy. :D

        Loading editor
    • There's not much for me to add, Bane really covered all the bases. I have a personal preference for communities that focus on a more concentrated topic due to the tighter community that it fosters.

    • So, quick update, looks like StarWars.com is indeed doing episode guides again on the Monday after each episode comes out. That'll give us a good few extras and references for our articles. Here's hoping they're still doing Trivia guides for each one (my personal favorite). :D

    • Thanks for the responses guys!

Good stuff re episode guides! I know some were worried StarWars.com wouldn't do those.

    • Hi everyone! So I have a proposal relating to what I asked a few days ago re Wookieepedia.

The question I was asking about a merge with Wookieepedia was in relation to the the Star Wars animation wikis that currently exist:

With Clone Wars airing right now and a Rebels sequel TV series on the cards, I've been thinking of things we can do with the wikis going forward.

It's well documented all three shows tie-in to one another, with Kanan Jarrus appearing in both Rebels and Clone Wars, with Ahsoka Tano being a (great!) high profile connection.

With that in mind, here's my question:

How would you feel merging all 3 wikis into one Star Wars Animation Wiki?

That would drastically reduce content duplication and would make it really easy to cover content that crosses over between the shows. Many of you edit across all 3 wikis too.

What do you think? No decisions need to be made right now, just judging general opinions. It's a really exciting time for Star Wars animation - just wanting to find ways to document it to its full potential! :)

        Loading editor
    • Seems like a very risky venture TBH.

        Loading editor
    • I'll say it upfront: I would personally be against it. The scope of Star Wars Rebels expanded so far beyond its Clone Wars tie-ins, especially with a sequel series in the works, that I think it stands enough on its own to warrant its own wiki. Unlike Resistance, which flopped after its first season and limped the rest of the way through its prematurely ordered second. That show was simply a swing-and-a-miss project that doesn't really fit the scope of either Clone Wars or Rebels. I doubt even their wiki gets much traffic nowadays and a merger would do little to change that.

I also feel like mashing all three wikis together would take away from these communities' focus on their respective eras, since most of their articles are written from an in-universe standpoint. In my opinion, they're better off independent of one another. Now, if a partnership between these communities was proposed as members of an overarching Star Wars Animation project, that I could get behind.

        Loading editor
    • Following on from the excellent points brought forth by Bane, I'd like to mention that this wiki also houses articles for the 2003 microseries, Star Wars: Clone Wars. Should a Star Wars Animation Wiki come to fruition, how would we dictate what animated series to cover? The 2003 microseries has since been branded as Legends, and there are other series that exist under this banner, i.e. Star Wars: Droids and the Ewoks series.

The 2008 Star Wars: The Clone Wars series resides within both Legends and Canon, and other Canon animated projects have since been released, such as Star Wars Forces of Destiny and Star Wars Galaxy of Adventures. So, adding Star Wars Rebels and Star Wars Resistance into the equation, this new wiki would cover eight animated series, spanning the entirety of the Star Wars timeline wherein approximately half do not exist within the same continuity. If only Canon series were to be included in the merger, the strictly Legends articles on this wiki would be out of place.

        Loading editor
    • Hi guys! Really great feedback, thanks for taking the time to post it.

I agree with you, Bane, in that Resistance is a slight outlier as it is much smaller in scope than CW and Rebels and perhaps wasn't as highly regarded as the others. I think though that's why I wasn't necessarily thinking of merging the wikis together just to help that wiki if that makes sense. It really was just an idea to give all three wikis more prominence on a unified project. Not Star Wars Clone Wars, Rebels, and Resistance Wiki rather Star Wars Animation Wiki.

That leads me on to Dracarys' concerns over Legends and Canon. That would be for you guys to decide should a merge go-ahead, but a Star Wars Animation Wiki could definitely cover everything Star Wars Animation, from the main 3 TV shows, Forces of Destiny, Galaxy of Adventures and perhaps even the Lego series. None of this goes to say you can't mark Legends content as Legends similar to how Wookieepedia does.

I think as well, a lot of the animated TV shows reference each other in some ways more than the movies. Ahsoka, for example, appears in Clone Wars, Rebels, Forces of Destiny, Lego shorts etc. Yoda appears in all of those too, plus Galaxy of Adventures. Of course Asajj Ventress appears in Clone Wars and the Lego shorts too. A lot of interconnecting goes on which would make wiki life easier.

So just to say, this is just an idea right now and it's great to have a conversation about it. With Wookieepedia being the 'big' Star Wars Wiki as it were, it would be great to find a way for the Star Wars animation wikis where they can have a far-reaching influence and also be fun projects to edit on. As I say too, while Rebels and Clone Wars may follow different paths in a way, they are very interconnected too I'd say.

That's another cool idea about affiliating the three (or more) wikis more closely and linking to each other for other content. What are your thoughts on that Dracarys? Wildfire? :)

        Loading editor
    • Arn't they already affiliated?

        Loading editor
    • They are I believe, but that's why I added "more closely". :)

        Loading editor
    • I really enjoyed it! I'm excited to see "Unfinished Business" brought to life next week, and I cannot wait to witness the Ahsoka's Walkabout arc. Not long to go now.

        Loading editor
    • I feel they should have added another tie-in scene to go along with this final season feel if they weren't going to put in the Organic Decimator scene. People said it was a bit dark the way the victim was killed in the deleted scene, but I thought the scene was no darker than when the Poletecs were gunned down during the actual battle. I guess in the brilliant animation now, with no darkness in the Poletec village, we would have seen a bit too clearly the whole deleted scene had it been included, but overall I still think they should have kept it. Regardless, I'm very pleased with how the final battle turned out in full animation. It's interesting how much the filler background sounds and music was changed. For example, the Poletecs' crustacean weapons no longer make that satisfying sound they had in the reels. I know that it's nit realistic to have the primitive weapons make such a futuristic sound, but I've watched the unfinished version of this so many times that it didn't sit well with me haha.

If you couldn't already tell, this has been my favorite episode of the Clone Wars series since I first saw it, among Eminence and The Lawless. I can't stress enough how awed I still am by the improved animation.

        Loading editor
    • The finale to this arc is going to be amazing for sure. The animation has never looked better!

That cut scene has been controversial to some I think. I agree I wish they'd added in another scene just to make the episode a bit longer. With the season only being 12 episodes, even having an episode being five minutes shorter will be a letdown to some.

Onwards and upwards though - still nine more episodes to go! :)

        Loading editor
    • For being the shortest episode in the series, I really enjoyed "On The Wings of Keeradaks," in no small part for seeing Echo in the action again! The episode felt a little empty without the test subject scene, especially since the audience doesn't really know the stakes of Wrecker escaping the organic decimator if they've never seen what the thing actually does. I mean yes, we've seen what it can do in the story reel episodes, but as I'm quickly learning from the latest reactions to this season, a sizable portion of the Clone Wars fanbase hasn't seen the story reels and are watching this arc for the first time. So they may not pick up on as many things like that as we do.

Even so, it was an awesome episode that kept moving and really brought out the bond between Rex and Echo. Looking forward to seeing the fully animated conclusion next week! Fingers crossed that they add in a scene where Echo reacts to Fives's death.

        Loading editor
    • I do agree with the 'empty episode' feeling without the removed scenes, but I do think that in the finished episode, the removal of those scenes could be looked at both positively and negatively. On one hand, yes, those watching now did not get to see the Organic Decimator in action and therefore this supposedly dangerous weapon was reduced significantly in impact to a mere piece of technology to be destroyed by the clones. On the other hand, however, all the Decimator really did was relatively slowly kill organic beings one at a time, having to use all of its 'tentacles' to kill. By not having it tested on anything, the Decimator is more mysterious and the audience's imagination might take over to craft just how dangerous the weapon is.

If I was watching the episode for the first time and saw the Decimator, I would think that each of its electric tentacles could kill instantly, like those giant jellyfish creatures from the Mon Cala arc in Season 4, which would make for a much deadlier weapon than it was in the story reels. Regardless, a small device like that vaporizing/turning someone into powder was a great concept.

    • Hey everyone! So new episode today - let me know what you think!

I wanted to look at the collaboration between the animated wikis again, in particular, Bane's suggestion. This involved a closer affiliation between the 3 communities as part of a network or partnership.

I think it's a very good idea! What does everyone else think of that? It's possible the communities could be connected by a banner on each main page for example to show their connection, at least to begin with. We can explore other ideas later but I just wanted to get your thoughts on the project first. :) --Spongebob456 talk@fandom 10:23, March 20, 2020 (UTC)

    • I am more than happy either way, I just got really excited about the announcement, so sorry about that!

    • No worries at all! I can tell you now I will be watching the S7 Bad Batch arc tonight so all good. Until we know more, I would recommend adding the content to this wiki while the news is fresh as users will be drawn here. Then, maybe after 2 days, you can either move it to the other wiki or keep it here. The other wiki can stay open for now, no worries. :) --Spongebob456 talk@fandom

    • Sounds good, I'll get onto it!

Edit: I've done some thinking and I definitely think it would be a good idea for this wiki to cover The Bad Batch series, just as I'm sure the Rebels wiki will follow the inevitable Rebels sequel.

    • Awesome!! There's an arc that deserves a spinoff! I'm relieved to see that it's taking place post-Clone Wars too. "Victory and Death" felt like a good closer for the era for now. Plus, I was already super curious to see what happened to Echo after the war! (No joke, I recently had a dream that a new movie was released showing the Bad Batch during the Empire, but that's neither here nor there.) I can hardly wait!

As for the wiki, I'm good either way. This seems like a good chance to keep this wiki alive and expand on the articles we already have, as the Rebels wiki is planning to do with the upcoming sequel series. I can go ahead and make a page for that series on here, if that sounds good!

    • Sounds like a plan guys! Let me know when you are finished with the other wiki and I can have it closed. :) --Spongebob456 talk@fandom

    • No need to worry about the other wiki, I already had it closed yesterday! :)

    • Oh cool - all good! Might be worth including the new show in this wiki's navigation. :) --Spongebob456 talk@fandom

    • I'll get on it! :)

Bane, do you have any suggestions on how we could accomodate the navigation bar for The Bad Batch series?

        Loading editor
    • I threw together a rough draft of what that might look like and published the revised navigation bar. Let me know what you think and feel free to make any changes to it!

    • Since we're dealing with three television series spanning multiple seasons, I was wanting your opinions on how we should go about season page names and category names. Options I'm thinking of are either:

      Season Pages

      • Season 1 (Clone Wars) / Season 1 (The Clone Wars) / Season 1 (The Bad Batch)
      • Clone Wars: Season 1 / The Clone Wars: Season 1 / The Bad Batch: Season 1

      Categories

      • Episodes (Clone Wars) / Episodes (The Clone Wars) / Episodes (The Bad Batch)
      • Clone Wars Episodes / The Clone Wars Episodes / The Bad Batch Episodes

These options could also include the "Star Wars:" title as well. What looks the most appealing to you guys? If you have any other options, your input is most welcome and I look forward to it.

Edit: I'm leaning more towards Star Wars: (title): Season 1 and Star Wars: (title) Episodes.
