Wayland, also spelled Weyland, was a forest planet that served as the Galactic Empire's new base of cloning operations following the Clone Wars. After terminating their contracts with the Kaminoans, the Empire relocated all viable clones and research personnel from Tipoca City on Kamino, which created the Clone Army for the Galactic Republic, to the new facility at Mount Tantiss on Wayland. Doctor Scalder presided over the facility. She welcomed Kaminoan scientist Nala Se, whose cloning talents were useful to the Empire.

Leadership at the facility later fell to Doctor Royce Hemlock, a former Republic scientist who pursued new applications for the Clone Troopers. Operations on Wayland were so classified that few within the Empire knew of the planet's existence, and even fewer knew its location.

Wayland originally appeared in the 1991 novel, Star Wars: Heir to the Empire by Timothy Zahn, where it also hosted secret Imperial cloning laboratories.
