The BTL-B Y-wing starfighter was a heavy fighter and bomber utilized by the Republic Navy during the Clone Wars. The fighter featured armor plating on its y-shaped fuselage and a spherical turret where the ship's ion cannons were located. The hyperdrive unit on board the fighter allowed to operate at longer ranges than other ships without needing assistance from a hyperdrive ring or carrier vessel.
Armament[]

BTL-B Y-wing starfighter
The Y-wing yielded an arsenal of forward mounted laser cannons, ion cannons, proton torpedo launchers and proton bombs.
Complement[]
As a two-man fighter, the Y-wing needed a pilot and gunner to operate effectively as well as an astromech droid to calculate hyperspace jumps.
History[]
Shadow of Malevolence[]
The BTL-B saw its first use during the Malevolence crisis where Anakin Skywalker, his apprentice, Ahsoka Tano and Jedi Master Plo Koon faced off against General Grievous' flagship. In this engagement the ship displayed the effectiveness of their complement of weaponry in disabling the Malevolence and its massive ion cannons saving the Kaliida Shoals Medical Center.
Darkness on Umbara[]
Y-wings were later used in the Battle of Umbara to help break the Separatist blockade over the planet. Clone pilot Odd Ball piloted a Y-Wing when he and one other bomber carried out an airstrike on an Umbaran-occupied ridge.
Nomad Droids[]
C-3PO and R2-D2 crash-landed a BTL-B Y-Wing Starfighter on Patitite Pattuna and later, after it had been repaired, were forced to make an emergency landing on Balnab.
Unfinished Business[]
Y-Wing Starfighters were used during the Battle of Anaxes, performing bombing runs on the Separatist proton cannons at the Anaxes Assembly Complex.
